3. Don't Let Spills Dry
Spills are inevitable on the carpet. Even if you do your best to keep the house clean and avoid eating on the carpet, accidents happen. When they do, it is important that you keep the spill wet until you can get it properly cleaned. Once the spill dries, it will have become part of the carpet and will become increasingly harder to get out. If you can't clean up the spill right away, take a wet rag and drape it over the spill to keep it moist until you can get the proper cleaning supplies.
